Media driven 2014 polls

News channels have been criticized for hours of live coverage of extravagant road showsand  filing  nominations during the 2014 Lok Sabha poll, blatantly  violating  Election Commission’s  code.  Of  nearly  a thousand  “paid  news”  complaints  on  record  during  this  poll,  more  than  a  quarter  of them  also  received  EC  notice  after  verification. The question is what difference  did  the  efforts  of  media  make  to  make  this election  truly  a  game  changer  for  deepening  democracy  and  ensuring  good governance in the country.
