National Media Workshops on Road Safety, November- December, 2012, New Delhi, Hyderabad & Jalandhar for World Health Organization (WHO)

The series of three workshops on road safety were organized for registered journalists or editors working for daily or weekly newspapers, TV, magazines, online news portals etc. with the objectives of providing reporters and editors with in-depth understanding of road safety, main concepts as well as with suggestions of how to report on traffic and crash related news and promoting the idea of a shift in coverage, from traffic related news to road safety stories. The workshops largely sensitized media personnel to look at road crashes and traffic-related events as a public health issue. The workshops were able to impress upon the participating journalists that events should be treated in a holistic manner in a wider social context and not simply as mere statements of fact — a crash should be perceived against the backdrop of road safety in all its dimensions and from varying perspectives.
