SCALE® Demonstration Project in Jharkhand: Addressing Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancy (HTSP) and Youth Health and Fertility, 2008-09, AED and USAID

Brief about the project:SCALE® is a process for catalyzing large-scale change involving multiple stakeholders who unite around a common vision, network among themselves, and take action to produce system-wide change in a short period of time. The baseline study aimed to understand the current HTSP (Healthy Timing and Spacing for Pregnancy) scenario (Knowledge, Attitude, Behaviour and Practice) of youths in Jharkhand and thereby, helping planning of project’s implementation strategy via the SCALE. A multistage sampling was used for the selection of households and quantitative research techniques were used for collecting the data. After analyzing the 10 lowest performing districts in Jharkhand for relevant indicators pertaining to HTSP and family planning, two districts (Deoghar and Pakur) were finalized as the intervention districts for applying the SCALE® approach to HTSP. A third district (Sahibganj) was selected as the comparison area.
