The study aimed at situational analysis of urban sanitation affairs in India, especially on issues related to usage of toilets, including open defecation, gender problems, public hygiene and child health among others. The study being undertaken jointly with Kokusai Kogyo Company Limited to help JICA for their future aid projects in India. The study team during its visits to four states namely, Delhi, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh interacted with senior government officials of concerned departments, with NGO representatives, representatives of local bodies as well as community members.
